Omar appeared to blame Western intervention, including that of America, for terror. (This is an age old Propaganda method for Jihadists to get other Jihadists to kill others and themselves for them. It's like alleging the Jewish State of Israel is an appartheid state when the only actual appartheid is that outlined in Sharia Law and then blaming Jews for Sharia Law.
In a 2013 interview with Ahmed Tharwat on his former show “Belahdan” on Twin Cities PBS, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) claimed that a terror attack in Kenya was a reacting to “our involvement in other people’s affairs.”
“What you’re insinuating is what nobody wants to face. Nobody wants to face how the actions of the other people that are involved in the world have contributed to the rise of the radicalization and the rise of terrorist acts.
Usually most people want to not look internal and see what their actions that makes another react. For us, it’s always ‘I must have not done anything. Why is it happening to me?’ Nobody wants to take accountability of how these are byproducts of the actions of our involvement in other people’s affairs.”
At the time, the al-Shabaab terrorist organization had attacked the Westgate mall in Nairobi, killing 70 people.
This, according to the freshman Congresswoman, is somehow the fault of the West.
Omar’s comments were a response to Tharwat’s assertion that terrorism is “a reaction to a situation.” Later in the interview, Tharwat said that “the violence done [by] the West is done by the people that are elected” and not what he described as “fringe societies,” meaning war-torn nations in the Middle East and Africa.
This comment prompted Omar to say that Western world had “legitimized” violence.
